Getting to Know California Wine Regions

The full line of Jenny Dawn Cellars wines

Over the last several months, we've truly enjoyed the experience of sharing our wines with our community and in turn listening to all of the meaningful feedback that we've received! So now that so many people have tasted our wines and created their own memories and experiences with them, we'd like to take you deeper into your understanding of our wines and dive into the different wine regions that we source from.

The first two vintages that we launched were the 2016 Jenny Dawn Cellars Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines. The grapes that we sourced for these inaugural wines came directly from the renowned Santa Rita Hills in California, which is known specifically for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. As it is located 100 miles north of Los Angeles, and has an east-west orientation between Purisima Hills and Santa Rosa Hills, the cool ocean breezes funnel straight through the region and truly nurture the grape crops, keeping them cool and resistant to rot.

We take great pride in the fact that our first wines came from the esteemed region of Santa Rita Hills, as the quality of grape is simply top notch for both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines.

Earlier this month, we released our new Rose' and White Wines! After visiting Napa in January to taste and blend these wines, it's been so much fun to get to share them with our local community over the past couple of weeks. To further describe these wines, our White Wine is a blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Vignoles. Our Rose’ is a blend of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, and they're both quite refreshing wines!

The grapes from these wines were sourced from Clarksburg Wine Country, which is only about 20 minutes south of Sacramento. The mild temperatures and lack of summer fog allow for a highly opportune place for excellent grapes to grow. Clarksburg produces 35 different grape varietals, with the most common being Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Merlot, Petit Sirah and Sauvignon Blanc through its 7,000 acre span.

So what's coming next then?

We're so glad you're wondering! In addition to preparing to open Wichita's first Urban Winery next Spring, we're also currently working on the launch of our next Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vintages. The grapes for these new wines will be sourced from California's Sonoma Coast wine region, which is where most of Sonoma County's most celebrated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay comes from!

Sonoma Coast's cool climate makes it quite ideal for growing the Burgundian grapes, such as Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, thus making this region a perfect place to source our next vintages from.

If you haven't yet tried our wines and this piece has left you quite intrigued, we're very excited to be featuring all four of our wines this weekend at Wichita's Midwest Wine Fest. We're so excited to be lined up with some of the most prestigious American wines at this phenomenal event. We hope that you'll stop by and spend a few moments with us if you're attending the Grand Tasting!
